Probably most of the people who would be asked about their main association with Lviv would say Ploscha Rynok (Rynok square). But this is only one of major attractions in Lviv, and there are much more.



Lviv is the city of magnificent temples, castles, city festivals, theaters. Lviv is Ukrainian capital of coffee and chocolate shops. Here you can stroll through the maze of medieval streets, which saw the presence the emperors of Austria and kings of Poland. The first mention of the city is found in the Chronicle in 1256. Lviv was founded by King Danylo Galitskiy, and named in honor of his son Lev. The historic city center is included in UNESCO World Heritage List. The entire city of Lviv is called a true open-air museum. Besides, Lviv was one of the host cities for Euro 2012.

Market square

The architectural ensemble of the XIV century, created in the traditional style of European medieval cities. House of the square are built in the Renaissance and Baroque styles. In many buildings have survived the elements of Gothic architecture of the 15-16 centuries. At the Market square you will also find Lviv Historical Museum, Pharmacy Museum, City Hall and Lviv tourist information center created for guests of the city.

Town Hall


A modern building of Town Hall was built in the style of Viennese classicism of the 19th century. Here is placed the City Council. The Town Hall is a symbol of the city. Near the Town Hall you can hear the anthem of the city every day. The height of the Town Hall is 65 meters. To see the beauty of the ancient city from the top of the tower, it is necessary to overcome the 350 wooden steps.

Opera House


Lviv Opera House is called a diamond in the architecture of Lviv, a theater of magnificent beauty and impressing luxury. S. Krushelnytska Opera House is one of the most beautiful theaters in Europe. The magnificent interior complimented with mirrored hall and a big number of pictures. The Chandelier in the hall is made from precious crystals with different figures. In the theater still remains the private room of the Emperor Franz Joseph.

Dominican Cathedral


In Dominican Cathedral during the reign of Peter I was signed a treaty of military alliance between Russia and Poland against Sweden. Here you can see the alabaster tombs of 16th century, a marble monument to A. Grotger. Here is exhibited a part of the collection of monuments of sacred art. In the cathedral are also held concerts of organ music. Today hre is located the Greek Catholic Church of the Holy Eucharist. Lviv Dominican Cathedral is built in the baroque style of 16th century. 

St. George's Cathedral


The magnificent St. George's Cathedral is built in the Rococo style of the 18th century. The facade is decorated with sculptures, and the bell tower is famous for the oldest bell in Ukraine. Among the believers the church is known for its icon of Virgin Mary of the 17th century. St. George's Cathedral is included in the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Arsenal Museum


Lviv Arsenal is the fortification of the 16th century . In the 18th century the building was used as a prison. In the late '80s of the 20th century in the building was established a museum of ancient weapons Arsenal. Weapon Museum exhibits a collection of weapons from 30 countries. Here you can find the Arab swords, two handed swords, armor of Polish Hussars.

Clares Church 


This Catholic church belongs to the Franciscan Order of Clares and was built in the early 16th century. After the reconstruction in the 19th century the church was used primarily as a hospital. During the Soviet era in the building was set up a museum that still exists today. The museum exposition is composed primarily of sculptural works in the Baroque style of the "Ukrainian Michelangelo" - I. Pinzel.

Potocki Palace


Potocki palace was built for the Polish landlord Potocki by the project of Ludwig de Verney, the architecture of the palace is in the era of classicism. Until today the facade of the building and the interiors in the style of Louis XVI has been well preserved.

Kornyakta House


Kornyakta House is completed in the Renaissance style, built for the Greek merchant Kornyakta who lived in Lviv. He was trading wine around the Black Sea and was well known philanthropist. The building had many owners, including those of royal blood. Today you will find here History Museum which exhibits jewelry, paintings, antique furniture and glassware.

Museum of Folk Architecture and Life, Shevchenko Grove


Shevchenko Grove is located on the wooded hills in the eastern part of the city. Here are the historical and ethnographic villages and areas of Western Ukraine. In the museum are located 120 architectural monuments of the 15-19 century, including 6 churches. Among these churches there is a remarkable monument of Ukrainian folk architecture of St. Nicholas Church built in 1763.

Lychakivskyy cemetery


Lviv has always played decisive role in the history of the region that is why most of the wealthy merchants and noblemen used to live here. Even after their death they wanted to stay noble and famous paying huge money for their future tombstones and crypts at the local Lychakiv Cemetery, which with the lapse of time was transformed into real open-air museum and is now considered to be one of the most beautiful cemetery museums. Today interments at the cemetery are prohibited and only the most honorable and devoted citizens could be buried here.

The most popular Lviv restaurant today is "Kryyivka".
  It is original, underground cafe at Rynok Square, 14.  Interiors are decorated in the style of the rebel underground movement, everywhere hung elements of life, military clothing and weapons of the time. Equally original is here and cuisine. It is open around the clock.


In one of Lviv's stone house on the Staroevreyska Street, 48 located mysterious restaurant - "House of Legends." The main theme is the re-establishment of the old legends of the city. Each room of the restaurant is decorated according to a separate Lviv features - Lviv lions, time, sound, river Poltva. The highlight of the restaurant is its observation deck on the roof with car and volatile bronze figure of chimney sweep. Doors of the institution open for you from 11.00 to 2.00.


If you like sweets then be sure to visit the "Lviv chocolate factory", located on the Serbska Street, 3. Since its opening, it remains one of the most popular and most visited tourist attractions of the city. On the ground floor you can see firsthand the technique of making chocolates of different shapes and sizes. Second, third and fourth floors - a unique "chocolate supermarket. Welcome every day from 9.00 am. to 22.00 am.


Another unique attraction of the city the most expensive restaurant in Galicia - "Masonic lodge", located on the Rynok Square, 14 (right above the entrance to the Kryyivka). Next creative idea used in the design of Galician Jewish café "Under the Golden Rose". Restaurant recreates the comfort of a true Jewish home, with all the typical elements. Another feature of the restaurant is its menu without cost. It gives visitors the opportunity to show their talent to bargain with waiters. Located on the street. The most extravagant city institution - cafe "Masoch". Placed this extraordinary tavern in the city center (next door to the Chocolate Factory) on the Serbska Street, 7. The largest cafe in Lviv - “Kopalnia kavy”, is located in the heart of the old city, Rynok Square, 10. Coffee perfectly recreates the tradition of the city. Visitors can descend into the coffe mine. It is open daily from 8.00 to 23.00.

"Kerosene Lamp" - another creative restaurant city, which is based on the fact the invention of kerosene lamps in Lviv.
